« RICH DIADEM » FROM BRILLANTSCHMUCK THE QUEEN PAULINE VON WÜRTTEMBERG
In April 1820, King William I of Württemberg (reigned 1816-1864) had married in a third marriage with his cousin Pauline.
Since the rich jewelery of his second wife Katharina had been passed on to her daughters after her death in 1819, representative jewelery was missing for the new queen.
Wilhelm I commissioned the court jeweler August Heinrich Kuhn to make a multi-part queen jewelery and even had diamonds removed from the royal crown.
The so-called "Rich Diadem" is part of this ensemble for Queen Pauline. For it were processed without exception large diamonds, whose weight adds up to over 500 carats.
Material / Technique ... Gold, partly silver plated, diamonds
Dimensions ... D 18.5 cm to 16 cm

What Happened to This Tiara?
It stayed in the family for quite awhile. One of Pauline’s successors as Queen of Württemberg, Charlotte, wore it in the 19th century. But when the kingdom of Württemberg was dissolved after World War I, the royal family and the state split the jewels among them. This diadem went to the state. If you’re ever in Stuttgart, you can visit the Landesmuseum and see this tiara, along with the crown.
