Queen Fabiola gave to Queen/Princess Mathilde prior the waterfall Brooch and Tunesian earrings.
When she passed away Queen Mathilde received the Wolfers Tiara/necklace which was a Present from the belgian Nobility to Queen Fabiola and a ruby bracelet She wore already at her Pre Wedding Gala, Also pearl earrngs.
A lot of items are missing such as the Queen favorite stone the Aquamarines, a great sautoir, bracelets, pearl necklace and of course the Mrs Franco tiara.
Why suddenly will this very tiara be seen on Princess Elisabeth? It was told that she will continue her Studies and don't thnink she will attend a State Visit with a tiara when she will be 18 !
The Kings of the Belgians were not generous in jewels .
King Leopold II never gave the Duchess of Brabant any jewel. She has to bought them herself.
King Baudouin had 3 Nieces who Did Royal Weddings Marie Astrid and Astrid an Archduke of Austria and Princess Margaretha , the Son of the Reigning Prince of Liechtenstein. I could have give them a jewel .But no.
The only one who has to buy a tiara was King Albert II for Princess Claire.
I never undertood why Queen Elisabeth gave her Cartier tiara to King Leopold III , Why in 1985 after the King passed away ,the Royal Court did not buy Queen Elisbeth Cartier tiara or asked to be cancelled from the Auction.
One of the best specialist of Royal Jewels who is a frenchman , wrote that the Cartier tiara , mentionned as a tiara from Nobility , was Queen Elisabeth's and the Seller was Princess Lilian.Well done and She or course was not that happy.
As for Queen Paola , she received a wonderful flower brooch with as center a ruby from Prince Albert. She has 2 small necklace/tiara , one is a Present of the Belgian Nobility. I don't think she will wear a tiara anymore. She has one Daughter and 6 grand daughters. She will give any jewels now.
What I've been thinking & hoping for a while: crown princess Elisabeth will be 18 this year. Maybe she will get to wear Fabiola's tiara, as the first one or exclusively...? I can imagine Mathilde granting her daughter this priveledge.
It's of course also posible the tiara is being kept away untill a Spanish gala is on the agenda (seeing the political situation in Both SP & BE right now this can take many years).
Could the fact that it was a present from Franco, a dictator after all, play a part in the delay in use?
Anyway, I'm sure Mathilde has inherited the tiara and I can't wait to see it again!
It would be very interesting to know what has happened to the majority of Queen Fabiola's jewels.
Even if most are now with Queen Mathilde, I suspect that HM would not wear the Spanish wedding gift tiara. For some reason, I feel that the Queen has a quiet personality and is unlikely to wear something as flamboyant as that tiara -- at least in its coronet format. Perhaps she will surprise us all by wearing it as a necklace one day.
What do others think?
