Thank you Isabelle D! Like Mauriz I noticed the hat pins. I wonder if anyone knows more about them? They are small treasures.
Apart from being able to see details clearly in these photos, the things which caught my attention were the colour of the largest pearl in the brooch (superb and interesting), the "flaw" in the second pearl in that brooch, and how the very interesting pearl in the ring is set.
Re the setting of the pearl in the ring. Obviously the setting is modern. Apart from the fact that the pearl itself is an interesting shape with beautiful peacock overtones, I was interested to try to work out how the pearl was attached to the rest of the ring. I think the answer is in Isabelle's 3rd photo. Looking at that, I think that the pearl is perhaps drilled on the side, and this provides the attachment point for the ring. But is my guess correct? If so, then I think it is regretable that a lovely pearl with a classic pear shape was drilled at that point -- unless, of course, that is where there was a major flaw in an otherwise enviable pearl. My attention to this issue was initially drawn because I like pear shaped pearls, liked the setting of this pearl; yet, wondered how it was attached to the diamonds set in the band, as in the 6th photo Isabelle posted I could not see any metal work joining the various parts. Perhaps I am very much mistaken!
