The diamonds for example look very old cut and the gold work quite rough. One of the pearls looks like its setting has bent and then below it has nylon fishing wire tied around it. Possibly to secure the clasp.
Possible a piece from perhaps's the DOC's family. Previous Message
In February 2018 the Duchess of Cornwall wore an interesting pearl and gemstone brooch in the shape of a coronet during a visit to Yorkshire.
Close up view of brooch
As far as I know, no information has been released about the origin of this brooch; nor have I spotted it being worn by other royal ladies.
Nevertheless, I wonder if the brooch may have originally been a wedding present to Queen Mary in 1893 from the Infante Antonio and Infanta Eulalie which was described in the press as a coronet brooch. For example--
So far I have found only one detailed description of a coronet brooch in the published information about Queen Mary's wedding gifts.
But does the brooch worn by the Duchess of Cornwall match the description?
Jacynth, also spelt Jacinth and more commonly as Hyacinth today, is a form of zircon, the most common colour being orange/red. Although amethyst is also found in shades of green, usually it a pale green, not the deeper emerald green seen in the brooch worn by the Duchess of Cornwall. But hyacinth is found in that colour range. Unless the colourless stones in the brooch are very poor quality diamonds, they too may be zircons.
Unfortunately, unless an image of the gift is discovered, whether the brooch worn by the Duchess of Cornwall is the one given to Queen Mary remains an intriguing question. I think it is possible.
