Since we have been discussing the jewels of the Countesses of Dudley (Georgina and Rachel), I thought I would start a thread on some of the jewels belonging to Lady Wolverton, nee Lady Edith Ward, the daughter of Georgina, Countess of Dudley and sister-in-law of Rachel, Countess of Dudley.
Some time ago, my attention was drawn to her jewels when I was trying to find more information about ladies who had Boucheron jewels.
I found this news item, dated November 1900.
I was intrigued. Below is a report from January 1895 on some of the wedding presents.
I subsequently found this sketch in the
Penny Illustrated Paper of the tiara which her mother, Georgina, Countess of Dudley gave to her on her marriage in 1895.
I am curious, as I would not describe this tiara as a "crown". For some thing which might match that description, I would expect an "all round" tiara.
Unfortunately, I have never been able to obtain a copy of Vincent Meylan's book on Boucheron, so I don't know if this tiara features in his book.
I haven't found a photo of Lady Wolverton wearing this tiara, or any thing matching the description which might match the word "crown".
Has any one?
I haven't done a lot of follow up research on Lady Wolverton, but I have some references to her jewels although, like her mother (and sister-in-law), she seems to have avoided photographers when she attended evening social functions. What a great pity for us jewellery lovers as she inherited a lot of Dudley jewels from her father, the first Earl.
Does any one have more information? I have some images of her with some minor jewels and of her daughter, but these ladies were skilled at hiding from photographers when wearing their jewels. Have any ever featured in auctions?
