I apologise. I should have been precise in my query and explained what I was asking about.
The "Hope ruby" from the collection of Lily Safra gets its name from the auction which was billed as "Jewels for Hope", it being Mrs Safra's intention that the money raised would be used for philanthropic ventures.
What I was referring to was a ruby from the famous Hope collection of gemstones which included the Hope diamond.
Although it was always referred to as a ruby, one description I have says that it had a blue tint, and at the turn of the twentieth century was set in butterfly brooch of sapphires and diamonds.
