Regards,
Dave.
A major new jewel worn by Queen Elizabeth! What an interesting time we are having!
I agree with Frank and Thomas that the jewel worn by Queen Elizabeth is most likely the mystery necklace which can be seen in the photo of Mrs Greville at the Austrian Embassy concert.
(Every time I see Sir Thomas Inskip in the photo I want to move him. If only Mrs Greville was sitting in his position!)
It is very obvious from press reports during the life time of Mrs Greville that she had at least 2 emerald necklaces and perhaps a third.
I have read the opinion of Dmitry on the RJWMB that the necklace worn by QEII is a rearranged version of the one worn by QEQM. I disagree.
QEII wearing the "new" emerald necklace.
It is difficult to find clear sharp images of the emerald necklace worn by QEQM; nevertheless, I think that the arrangement of the diamonds surrounding the emeralds in that necklace is different.
comparison of the two necklaces.
What might be very similar is the design of the diamond motifs linking the emerald and diamond clusters.
One idea which occurred to me --
Could the necklace worn by QEQM (minus the pendant) have been worn by Mrs Greville inside the large emerald necklace with the cabochon drops? How Mrs Greville had the 5 row Greville diamond necklace constructed shows that Mrs Greville liked a grand display. Two major emerald necklaces worn together would have provided justification for the press comments about her magnificent emeralds.
