Separate from this are the Crown jewels and the Royal family's jewellery and art/furniture collections/foundations of which there seems to be more than one and finally the personal property of the different members of the Royal family.
Really, does the British royal collection still acquire jewels and other items or are they only given stuff that are gifted to royals while in their official role? Queen Mary was noted for acquiring several items privately and then putting them in the royal collection and QV was known to have left certain privately owned jewels for the royal collection, but I never heard that the royal collection of itself acquired anything, so this article is intriguing.

Dave.
The Royal collections at Rosenborg and Amalienborg palaces posted this picture (I hope the link works) on their Facebook account to announce that they'd acquired this aquamarine pendant at an auction not that long ago.
The pendant used to belong to Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Russia and Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The Grand Duchess was the mother of Queen Alexandrine of Denmark. It's facet-cut and in the form of a drop and also includes rose-cut and
old-cut diamonds in a stylized leaf and flower pattern. It's set in gold and silver and beleived to have been made around the year 1900. Its main use was probably as a pendant for a brooch but could also be worn attached to a pearl necklace. Please correct me if the terms used are wrong. I'm not very good at translating jewellery themed terms from Scandinavian to English.
