Apparently was a "45-carat diamond, once set in the brooch pendent of the Dowager Duchess of Marlborough, a cousin of Winston Churchill’s. After her death, the gem was purchased by high-end jeweler Graff’s, where it was reset into a necklace surrounded by other diamonds. In 1980, the piece was valued at over $900,000."
In 1980 criminals stole the Marlborough diamond
At the time time of the theft, a widely publicised drawing showing Graff's necklace with the Marlborough diamond as a centrepiece was widely published.
The diamond has never been recovered and its difficult to find out anything concrete about the diamond pre its Graff ownership i.e. which Duchess it belonged to or the brooch that had the diamond as its centrepiece.
Does anyone know anything?
