Princess Michael did what Princess Marina never did : adding a row of diaonds on the Fringe tiara;
Dear all,
Further to my reading, I have the following information concerning diamond collet necklaces owned by members pf the British royal family :
a- The Duchess of Gloucester :
She has 2 diamond collet necklaces including one given by Queen Mary and the King George V (56 collets or diamonds)
https://royal-magazin.de/england/wedding-gifts.htm
This necklace is also used to attach the Kunzite brooch from Queen Mary.
She has an other one necklace with appeared after the death of Queen Mary (the small one):
b- The Duchess of Kent (Princess Marina)
She had on least 3 diamond collet necklaces (maybe 4).
Two of them (on least) were worn before the death of Queen Mary.
1° Diamond Rivière of 36 stones, which was also a wedding present of King George V to his new daughter-in-law, Princess Marina.
Maybe now worn by Princess Michael

2° A diamond collet necklace from Princess Louise ?
3° A diamond collet necklace from Princess Helena of Greece (Her mother) ?
Maybe diamonds from the Romanov Diamond Ribbon Bow Brooch were used to lengthen her necklaces ? (The large diamond bow brooch with double festoon of diamond collets and two large single diamond drops)

Two better photo of Princess Mariana of the necklaces at the Shah's state diner in 1959. Princess Marian wore 4 necklaces maybe the last one was given by Queen Mary (I think I can recognize the necklace) A very interesting link about a former discussion : https://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/msg/archive/1481533432.html As Beth said "One of the things which intrigues me is that in the same period QEQM did not have (or was not wearing) a diamond necklace with stones as large as those in the necklace of Princess Marina - nor did QEQM have several such necklaces". i do share the same opinion
C- Princess Mary the Princess Royal
1° and 2° Princess Mary had on 2 shorts diamonds collet necklaces including one from Lord and Lady Inchcape
See below :

https://royal-magazin.de/england/mary-lascelles-harewood/princess-mary-fringe.htm
Maybe a photo of the diamond collet necklace :
3° and 4° A long and a short diamond chains :
https://royal-magazin.de/england/mary-lascelles-harewood/princess-royal-diamonds.htm
Maybe a wedding gift ?
5° A long Diamond Chain and Pendant from The Citizens of the City of London

I have never seen photos of Princess Mary wearing other categories diamonds collet necklaces after the death of Queen Mary
d- Princess Alexandra :
1° a small diamond collet necklace worn as a young women:
Princess Alexandra was on her way to attend a banquet at Buckingham Palace for President Heuss of West Germany. Maybe this necklace is from Queen Mary
2° An other one from her mother She might have inherited a necklace from her mother.
In conclusion :
According to Hugh Roberts in The Queen's Diamonds, Queen Mary had 8 collet necklaces, and 2 of those were left to the Queen.
We have no proof that the Princess Royal, Princess Marina and the Duchess of Gloucester were given a huge diamond collet necklace as a bequest at the death of Queen Mary (Just maybe 2 or 3 : the Duchess of Gloucester (a small one), Princess Marina and Princess Alexandra(a small one))
I now think that Hugh Roberts made a mistake. QEII must have been left more collet necklaces that what it written in the book. On least the most important were given to QEII.
All the photos are taken from the net.
