Again you have unearthed instances where personal orders have been given (presented) after the death of the head of the order. I suspect it highlights the importance attached to being able to wear orders and badges in a hierarchical society where every nuance of rank was upheld, and scrutinised by others.
I am intrigued at how Queen Ena's second class badge has been changed to having a border of pearls rather than diamonds. I doubt if Queen Ena was ever in such dire need that she stripped small (and possibility low quality) diamonds from an order to pay her bills, as the sale of an intact item would render it more valuable. The sale of large items (well documented) is understandable, but to strip a badge of small diamonds, thereby decreasing its value, seems illogical.
