The photo to which Thomas referred
Thomas' observations prompted me to see if I could find more images of Lady Cynthia Colville. Like most Ladies in Waiting, Lady Cynthia was rarely photographed in grand jewels -- a shame for us. She features numerous times in the press, most of these occasions centring on her royal duties or her involvement in charitable ventures.
A daughter of the first Marquess of Crewe, she married George Colville in January 1908 when her father was still Earl of Crewe.
Two tiaras, plus a hair jewel, featured in the lists of her wedding gifts, but unfortunately I did not find any sketches or photos of these jewels.
Wedding photo. She was not reported as wearing a tiara.
Lady Cynthia's most frequently seen jewels were a double strand of pearls and a set of elaborate drop earrings.
The only other occasion I have found Lady Cynthia photographed wearing a tiara was from a function in 1930 when she acted on behalf of her father.
Again she was wearing the same tiara as seen in the first photo above, as well as her badge as a Woman of the Bedchamber to Queen Mary.
Detail
I wondered if this tiara fits the description of the one given to her by her father at the time of her marriage?
Has anyone identified her at any of the coronations? It seems highly likely she would have attended the 1937 coronation and possibly the 1953 coronation.
