Not sure about Princess Ghislaine having been thinner. In these photos from the late 40's she seems to have a stature comparable to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother.

She seems to have lost weight by the late 50's though, and comparing the photo in Beth's post with this shot of Princess Ghislaine from 1958 I'm inclined to say you're correct. But then, the camera angle in Beth's photo from at the foot of the staircase is very unflattering, and the rather curvaceous-looking lady in question might be wearing the pearl necklace interspersed with gemstones that Princess Ghislaine is sporting around her right wrist.
