I am intrigued by the tiaras of the Linlithgow family.
I have one photo of the first Marchioness of Linlithgow wearing a tiara from a magazine publication in 1908.
This may have been the tiara described in the press from the 1911 Cartier exhibition of tiaras to be worn at the forthcoming Coronation as " of the 18th century fashion".
I could not find an image of the 1st Marchioness wearing a tiara during her husband's tenure as Governor of Victoria (when he was Earl of Hopetoun), but it may be that the tiara above was the one used.
The wife of the second Marquess wore a much grander looking tiara.
1922.
It can be seen to better advantage in the photos used to announce the 2nd Marquess' appointment as Viceroy of India in 1936.
Below the Marquess and Marchioness can be seen in state in India. The Marchioness is wearing a very elaborate necklace as well.
The tiara was worn by Anne Leveson to her wedding to the 4th Marquess (then the heir, the Earl of Hopetoun) in 1968.
I wonder if the family still have this tiara, or if it has been sold?
