A short time ago I posted the photo below showing Queen Mary, King George and Princess Mary, Princess Royal in 1918. The purpose then was to highlight that Queen Mary was wearing, as a pendant, the large oval pink topaz which now forms part of a brooch worn by the Duchess of Gloucester.
When the photo is enlarged it is possible to see that Princess Mary was wearing a brooch at the centre of her bodice.
The same image made slightly darker
I think it might be the rock crystal brooch we associate with Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, which HM wore frequently as a hat adornment in the early years of her marriage.
I have searched for, but haven't found, other photos of Princess Mary wearing the brooch. The list of wedding gifts given to QEQM shows that Princess Mary and her husband gave QEQM linen as a wedding gift, not a brooch.
Nevertheless, I think that the brooch worn by Princess Mary might be the one later worn by QEQM.
What do others think?
