It seems like Lady Sarah Chatto has inherited a lot of pieces compared to her brother the Earl but I guess we maybe don't know the definitive owner ship for the Earl or perhaps they split the jewels and then the Earl decided to auction the majority of his share. The Earl may also have inherited more in money and Sarah jewellery.
What the list does bring out quite starkly is that in fact apart from the Poltimore most of the main pieces remained with the family.
In cases of auctions like these the auctioneers would have advised the the Earl and his sister to have a lead piece ie the Poltimore.
