Thank you for your reply. It is my thought that King George V was comparing the original setting of the tiara with emeralds as worn to the Delhi Durbar with another parure/demi parure.
Sorry if I was not clear.
Mike
Hi Mike, I believe KGV was referring to the original setting of the tiara worn at the Delhi Durbar with the emeralds placed on top. Their might well be another emerald tiara within HM's keep but I am unsure. Maybe the DoCorn may well wear the Delhi Durbar tiara in its original emerald toppers when she comes of age or should that be the throne.
Regards,
Dave.
Hi all,
For some time I have had a theory that there is another Emerald tiara in the vaults at Buckingham Palace (BP) and or sizeable parure/demi parure.
My theory dates back to Queen Mary so it is not any of the Greville pieces.
I have done a lot of searching but keep drawing false ends. I am thus up a theory hoping that someone else may be able to help/strike gold etc.
My theory revolves around a comment made by King George V when referring to the Emerald and Diamond suite worn by Queen Mary to the Delhi Durbar.
His comment was along the lines that "it was May's finest". At the time I thought he was referring to all her jewels. Some recent posts about gaps in the provenance of some of the UK emerald pieces has made me wonder:-
* what if George V was just referring to Emeralds?
Thus perhaps Mary had another sizeable parure/demi parure of Emerald jewels that we know nothing of?
I am not thinking of the Emerald Brooch that can be worn in a tiara which featured in a thread a few weeks ago.
Against my thoughts are that Queen Mary would hardly not have worn such a suite had it existed unless it was designated for family dinners only.
I believe that the current Queen has several pieces that fall into this category.
Very happy to hear what others think. Of course as Dave and I and others have discussed there is a lot probably left untouched in the vaults at BP.
Thanks Mike
