As for the jewels, I know we have to take the illustration with a pinch of salt - both because it can be very difficult to identify the jewels due to the artist's hand and also because we do not know whether the people actually wore what they are depicted as wearing (the artist might not have been present at the event).
What a great find Kongetro!!
Yes, the lady nearest us is Queen Alexandra.
Below are two reports of the seating plan.
The Grand Duke Alexis is between Queen Alexandra and Queen Victoria. Obviously the artist didn't think we would be much interested in the Grand Duke and so he is partially hidden. Perhaps he is a trifle easier to see in this darker hued version of the front page of the paper.
As everyone knows I have been searching for information about Queen Alexandra's pearl and diamond tiara for years. There are numerous references to it in the press, but nothing to link it specifically with the one worn today by Princess Michael of Kent. The earliest date I have for a pearl and diamond tiara is 1868 so it is possible that Queen Alexandra wore it in 1874. Oh for a photo or two!!
