A description of the Reddendo presented to QEII.
I was a little surprised when I came across references to the Reddendo as I had never heard of it previously, and when I checked no jewellery site had ever mentioned it, not even those dealing with HM's badges.
The brooch presented to QEII
The brooch was presented during a picturesque event in the gardens of Holyroodhouse.
The Duke of Buccleuch presented it to the Queen.
Part of the ceremony can be seen in the video below (starting at 1 minute approximately).
Finding photos of HM wearing this brooch has proved a trifle frustrating.
The Queen was said to be wearing the brooch on this occasion in 1961, but I find it very difficult to make out what she was wearing.
The caption to this 1976 photo says that the royals were leaving for a Company of Archers' Ball. The Queen is wearing some sort of badge/brooch in the centre of her sash -- but is it the Reddendo given in 1952?
Hopefully, if we pool our knowledge we might yet find an image of this brooch being worn --or even one in colour showing the sparkle of the jewels.
In 2006 the Royal Company of Archers, in honour of HM's 80th birthday, presented her with a jewelled pen tray with the Reddendo on it.
