What we don't know of course is how often Queen Elizabeth, or indeed her mother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, might have worn particular jewels.
It is only in very recent years that the palace has released photos of the royals at the grand Diplomatic reception. For all that I know, HM might have worn the "new" emerald necklace half a dozen times, but no one has run to the press saying, "Have you heard...?"
Regardless, in recent years QEII has worn publicly some very significant jewels. I think that the first of these might have been HM's five stone diamond bar brooch made with the diamonds given to her in South Africa in 1948. (It was Franck who recognised that the brooch was made with those stones after I posted about them) I think it is more than just a coincidence that QEII has been seen wearing jewels which have either been "hidden" in the vaults for a long time or never been photographed on a royal lady previously.
