We know from the QD that Queen Mary possessed eight principal collet diamond necklaces (Garrard's typed list dated 23 july 1945 and countersigned by Queen Mary records the eight necklaces, 42 loose collets and a brooch 13 collets, totalling 400 collets altogether).
We know the origin of the 6 necklaces :
- The Duchess of Teck's collet necklace (in the main branch) ;
- Queen Alexandra's Collet necklace (in the main branch) ;
- Lady Mount Stephen's diamond collet necklace with a square central stone (in the main branch) ;
- Lady Mount Stephen's diamond collet necklace left to Princess Margaret (and sold) ;
- Queen Mary's first diamond riviere given as a wedding gift by the Princes and the Princess of Wales in 1892 (Maybe in the vault) ;
- A diamond riviere worn by 1896 (Worn until the end of her life) ;
- and two others...
and the riviere of 37 large collets from the Grand Duchess Vladimir later transformed in a sautoir (in the main branch) ;
These rivieres were certainly in the list of the "8 principal collet diamond necklaces.
However, I have noticed that Queen Mary wore small diamond collet necklaces with the lozenge tiara or the Iveagh tiara.
Therefore I am consequently pretty sure that QM had more than 8 collet necklaces at the end of her life (the principal ones and the "less important" ones).
Princess Margaret
We now know that Princess Margaret wore on least 5 diamond collet necklaces during her life.
Two of them were owned by her.
One was lent by he sister, Her Majesty QEII ;
One was certainly lent by her Mother Queen Elizabeth and certainly inherited by QEII and now worn by the Duchess of Cambridge.
She wore on least once a diamond collet necklace in 1951 which was different from the other ones.
I think it the same one worn by Queen Mary with the lozenge tiara above her city of London's pearl and diamond dog collar (Sadly, I can't post photos any more).

In conclusion, I do think that Queen Mary lent a small necklace not described as a "principal collet" to Princess Margaret before her death (and left QEII or to another person at her death).
Last but not least, i also infer that Queen Mary left a small necklace to Princess Alexandra of kent.
