The house of Windsor has harbored a sense of trepidation about not actually saving their relatives in the Russian revolution.

Wearing jewels from relatives who may have had a difficult time may act as a deterrence. There is proof that Queen Mary did purchase jewels from both Grand Duchess Xenia and Xenia's mother the empress/ Tsarina Maria.

Mary has worn some of these jewels as has her descendants. Is it possible that some of the jewels were purchased by Margaret Greville? I suspect that they are acquisitions of jewels which were not clear and for that reason may not be worn. So it's possible that certain gifts may have come into the Royal house from or via checkered avenues.
