I recently noticed that a photo, from QEII's 21st birthday ball in Cape Town in April 1947, showed Princess Margaret wearing a three strand pearl necklace.

In most of the photos from the South African tour, Princess Margaret is not the focus of the camera & so often details of her jewellery is difficult to see.

Nevertheless, after looking at numerous photos, it seems to me that the Princess wore both her own 2 strand necklace plus a 3 strand one.

As we all know, QEII & the Princess are said to have received pearl necklaces from George V at the time of his Jubilee. QEII received a 3 strand necklace & Margaret a 2 strand one.

I suspect that the 3 strand necklace worn by Princess Margaret was borrowed from QEII.
