The incredibly ornate rose brooch is now in the Al Thani collection. Vincent Meylan identified Mellerio as the designer and retailer of this jewel.

According to Hans Nadelhoffer Cartier, (2007) p. 319 it was purchased by Cartier in the 1904 auction. The firm then sold it to Mrs Cornelius Vanderbilt in the same year.

Princess Mathilde, Emperor Napoleon III's cousin, had magnificent jewels !
