    Danish Pearls. Archived Message

Below is part of a letter written by the Duchess of Teck in September 1877 regarding the pearls of the then Crown Princess Lovisa of Denmark.

I am interested in three aspects of information given about Lovisa's pearls.

    1. Do anyone know why the Khedive gave such a generous present to the then Swedish princess? Could it have been to gain influence with Sweden or Denmark and if so, why?

    2. Did the necklace originally have 5 pearl drops?

Or did the necklace only originally have 3 drops -- as it is today?

    3. What was the pearl brooch given by the bride's maternal grandparents?

    Edited for a typo.
