Habsburg tiara up for auction
Posted by mauriz on September 12, 2018, 5:20 am
A tiara by Köchert, given by Archduchess Marie Valerie, daughter of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth of Austria, to her own daughter Hedwig on the occasion of her wedding to Count Bernhard zu Stolberg-Stolberg on April 24th, 1918 is up for auction at the Dorotheum in Vienna on October 24th.
With approx. 40 ct of diamonds the tiara can be separated into 7 brooches which can be seen in the video below.
Very interesting to see the tiara being worn with a contemporary hair style showing that it is still very wearable. The versatility of some of these jewels always captures my interest.
A very nice tiara! I agree with Beth it is nice seeing it worn, and I think it looks good with a modern hair-do.
The video is instructive, and a good occasion to practice my German as well!
For a second I thought this was the base of Marie-Valerie's pearl tiara... which hopefully still exists.
