La Motilla Tiara at Alba Wedding
Posted by The Royal Watcher on October 7, 2018, 6:11 am
While the new Duchess of Huéscar did not wear a Tiara at her wedding to the Heir of the Duke of Alba today, his mother, Matilde de Solís, wore a grand Sapphire and Diamond Necklace, which seems to be a converted Tiara from her family, the Marquises of la Motilla, and was worn by her niece, María del Carmen Moreno from Cova Solís, at her wedding!
UPDATE- The Tiara was also worn as a necklace by Matilde's mother, the Marchioness of la Motilla, at her wedding in 1988!
Nice find The Royal Watcher. The Albas like the Westminster's seemingly has also auctioned off some of their historic jewels. Strange business when you are asset and titled rich but cash poor.
Regards,
Dave.

I think it's a case of not getting the wear out of them. I once saw a coffee table book of the Alba's homes in Spain, everything from Castles and Palaces to small farm houses and pied de terre's.
It maybe a case that they prefer the upkeep on these or not want to sell than keep easier things to replace.
It's also looks like Matilde de Solis rather than wearing the necklace had it sewn or attached directly onto her desk.

The Alba's only seem to have sold off one tiara. So in the family vault there at least 3 more..
