Royal Wedding Necklaces
Posted by MarcA on October 11, 2018, 11:48 am
Just a something that came into my mind with tomorrow's nuptials is how many royal brides don't seem to wear necklaces.
I had a bit of a flick through of some photo's and the Queen, QEQM, Sophie, Lady Helen Windsor and Margaret all wore necklaces at their weddings but neither Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones, Diana, Sarah Ferguson, Serena Snowden, Catherine or Meghan did.
I wondered if it had generally gone out of fashion or there is maybe something slightly more to it? Perhaps wedding gifts were only worn once married but then that perhaps is a dead argument due to the tiara situation. As does Sophie but the again that was a personal gift from Edward?
Thoughts?
Sarah Ferguson Wedding Necklace

Actually, Sarah Ferguson wore a pearl and gold necklace, with a square pendant, at her wedding which was worn quite regularly up until 1989! It was worn by her before the wedding as well, so it was maybe a personal jewel or engagement gift rather than a wedding gift!
I was collecting links and images about the necklace recently (for a future article) and I haven't been able to find out much apart from the photographic evidence, so I'm looking forward to any information!
