Queen Fabiola of Belgium
Posted by Dave on October 14, 2018, 3:12 am
While looking around I saw this necklace on the late Queen, and are the stones in the tiara I suspect are sapphire? Please view below.
Even though the stones look very dark, I suspect that they are emeralds or another green gemstone, as Queen Fabiola is wearing what I think is called the Tunisian necklace, which has green gemstones. I seem to recall there has been discussion about the stones in the necklace.
Queen Fabiola's Spanish wedding gift tiara can be worn in at least 2 configurations, and the leaf elements as a necklace. HM had rubies, aquamarines and emeralds so she could vary the centre stones.
The green colour can be seen more clearly in this photo.
Thanks Beth for the enlarged photos and information. I am just in love with the necklace. Anyone with anymore information on the necklace please post.
Regards,
Dave.

I am hoping that some one knows more about this necklace and earrings suite than I do, Dave.
I believe that it was named the Tunisian suite (or demi-parure) because Queen Fabiola was seen wearing it just after a visit to Tunisia -- but I am relying on my memory, so I may be very much mistaken.

Queen Mathilde has worn the earrings a few times. The first time when Queen Fabiolas was still alvie. So lets hope that she also has the necklace. It could probably easily put on a tiara frame.

According to this website, the suite was bought by King Baudouin during a private trip to Tunisia, and it was clearly a favourite, as Queen Fabiola wore the suite, especially the earrings, quite often! The green stones are either emeralds, tanzanites, tourmalines or agates. The set was given to Queen Mathilde in 2013, but so far, she has only worn the earrings! I hope to see the necklace soon, maybe at the upcoming State Visit to Portugal!
