Jewels worn by QEII and the Duchess of Cambridge
Posted by Franck on November 13, 2018, 6:08 am
Dear all,
I thought that QEII was wearing the Two Strand Hanoverian Pearls. However, I was not sure.
Order of Splendor has posted a photo of QEII This She came to see a shot of the clasp of the pearls, It does not look to be a huge clasp.
I would also think the clasp would be more easily visible if these were the Hanoverian pearls.
Therefore;, I now think that QEII was wearing a new 2 pearl strand necklace never seen before ! a new jewels.
Consequently, she has worn on least 8 different Two Strand Pearl necklaces :
- The Queen Anne and Queen Caroline Pearl Necklaces ; - The Two Strand Hanoverian Pearls ; - Queen Victoria's Two Strand Pearl Necklace with Ruby Clasp ; - An other 2 strand pearl necklace worn for evenning functions said to be from Kuwait - a small 2 strand pearl necklace worn in Windsor (The Royal Windsor Horse Show) or in Balmoral ; - a 2 strand pearl necklace worn during her honeymoon ; - a small 2 strand pearl necklace worn as teenager (or for her Engagement);
Please also note that the Duchess of Cambridge debuted a new pair of pearl earrings.
It was thought they might be a pair on loan from the Queen, however upon closer inspection the earrings are different (not the shame shape).
However, I think that it can be the earrings worn by Princess Elizabeth as Bridesmaid At St. Margarets Wedding (1946) same shape (same shape).
I strongly suspect that QEII is wearing the Hanoverian pearls. The inner (or upper) strand is slightly smaller than the outer (or lower) strand, and on the inner strand I can see a characteristic drop (or egg) shaped pearl. I am trying to upload some photos to explain what I mean, and will post when Photobucket is being obliging.
Re: Jewels worn by QEII and the Duchess of Cambridge
While the clasp of the Hanoverian pearls is large it is not enormous, and often it is not visible in partial side views of the necklace.
The clasp.
Often the clasp is not visible from a side view.
Below HM is wearing the Hanoverian pearls.
I think that the spacing between the two rows of pearls worn at the 2018 Festival of Remembrance and other identified wearing of the Hanoverian pearls is the same. Different camera angles and the possibility of restringing may occasional suggest a larger or smaller gap between the rows.
But it is the presence of a drop or egg shaped pearl on the inner (or upper) row of the pearls which convinces me that the pearls worn on 10 November 2018 are the Hanoverian pearls.
In the centre of the upper row (here on our left hand side) a drop shaped pearl can be seen.
The same pearl can be seen in this wearing of the pearls.

Franck, are you referring to the Elphinstone-Gibbs wedding 1946? If so, then I don't think that the earrings worn by Queen Elizabeth II are the same as those the Duchess of Cambridge wore at the Festival of Remembrance on 10 November 2018.
The photos I have been able to find of QEII at the 1946 wedding are not very clear, which makes it difficult for me to compare the jewels. Below are the clearest I have found.

I now see that most others do not think the pearls are the Hanoverian pearls but, apart from the Order of Splendor site mentioning the clasp (which I cannot see at all), no one has given any other explanation. Hopefully we will be able to see a photo or video shots which show the clasp. Perhaps I am wrong. I know my eye is not as good as others.

I do think you are right ! I trust in your explanation !
