Nine Province Tiara
Posted by Thomas on November 19, 2018, 12:34 am
In anticipation of tomorrow's (19.11) State dinner on the occasion of the State Visit to Belgium by the French President and Mrs Macron, the Royal Palace released a previously unseen photograph of the State Visit by President Pompidou and Mrs Pompidou in May 1971.
It seems that Queen Fabiola wore the Nine Province Tiara without its big diamonds. I think it is the first time I have seen an illustration of this particular setting of the versatile tiara.

On a sidenote, King Baudouin wore the Legion of Honour sash the wrong way round, which was corrected on the second gala dinner, which took place on 25 May 1971. Each night, the Princess of Liège (Queen Paola) went without a tiara.

Very interesting, thank you Thomas. I had never noticed the tiara without the large diamonds previously, but a quick hunt on the net shows that Queen Fabiola wore it on at least one other occasion in the same configuration. I have no idea when this was.
