It's always hard to determine with such classic pieces (there are certainly more than one in the vaults), but I'm sure these are not Queen Victoria's Pearl Earrings, because those are wider!

However, recently I found a sharper photo of Mrs Greville at Ascot with Queen Mary in 1934 and I am now sure that the earrings Mrs Greville was wearing were pear pearl drop earrings. Sadly, the photo was taken from a distance so it is difficult to be sure if they are the pair of earrings which the Duchess of Cornwall wore to the Diplomatic Reception. Mrs Greville 1934 The Duchess of Cornwall 2018 Because of the poor quality of the photo of Mrs Greville and the fact that we can only see the earrings from the back means that it will be impossible to say if they are the same as the earrings worn by the Duchess, but I think it is a strong possibility, especially when looking at the distance between the stone sitting below the ear lobe and the pearl.

Great information. So now we know for certain from Vincent Meylan's work that Mrs Greville did own very expensive pearl earrings. Pearls of over 100 grains each are very rare, and the price she paid for them was astronomical. What would we all do without Vincent Meylan's scholarship? Thank you Vincent!! Another factor which makes me think that the earrings worn by the Duchess of Cornwall are Mrs Greville's is that the stud section has a triangular shaped diamond. It is an unusual choice; something which I associate with Mrs Greville. The other thing which struck me about these pearls is that the colour makes me think they are South Seas pearls. The characteristic silvery whiteness is strikingly clear against the creamy pearls in the Duchess' choker. His mother the Queen has never allowed any real public inventory of her jewels and I did see a clip somewhere where the Queen's jeweler did comment on her jewel stash and said that her treasures were out of this world, not his actual words but something like it. I think Charles has that kind of openness to allow the light to shine in a bit more, and I do believe his wife Camilla will be a kind of former Queen Mary once he ascends and we will see lots of new or never before seen jewels. Camilla does have the kind of air to carry a very grand and ostentatious look like one of the dames from the bygone age and I think the next coronation will be her real big bloom if I put it like that. I also think Charles daughter in law the DoC will continue to develop into a very grand wearer of jewels as well. Regards, Dave.
