Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Fringe mystery
Posted by Beth on December 9, 2018, 1:35 pm
I wonder what everyone will make of this photo showing QEQM wearing what looks like an unknown fringe necklace in November 1947?
The occasion was a concert at the Albert Hall when Jascha Heifetz played violin concertos on 4 November 1947.
This fringe sits a lot lower on HM's neck than the one Hugh Roberts identified as Queen Adelaide's fringe.
HM in Sydney 1958 wearing the fringe Roberts identified as Queen Adelaide's.
I have the impression that the fringe worn in 1947 has a different, more rounded "base" from the Queen Adelaide fringe.
Below is a close up of the central portion of the Queen Adelaide fringe showing that the fringes are hanging from a "flat" row of diamonds.
1947 fringe
I have hunted without success for another photo from this event.
What does everyone think?
Re: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Fringe mystery
Thank you for those splendid photos Franck. I have never seen the one of QEQM drinking her wine before.
I am not convinced that Princess Victoria had a fringe necklace. We have never seen any evidence of it in the press or in photos but, if she did have a fringe, then this might be the necklace. On the other hand what Marc says might be correct. It is a mystery to me.

Thanks Beth, good comparisons. I do see that the fringes hang different one is longer than the other, but am not certain for sure they could be different as the QM may have added a couple more bars to create a longer necklace. Thanks for pointing out the emerald ring Franck, that's the fourth one I've seen her wear (01): A sapphire one, (02): A pearl and diamond one, (03): An all diamond one now worn by the DoCorn and now this emerald one.
Regards,
Dave.
