QEII. Lost watch

I think we are all familiar with the story of how QEII lost her watch early in 1955. Billed as the world's smallest watch, it had been given as a gift to her from France in 1938.
What I hadn't appreciated is that a unit of military men with metal detectors had joined in the search for the watch, which apparently has never been found.

This is an interesting story. I wonder how many more jewels have been lost and never make the headlines.
Regards,
Dave.
