QEQM. I think that what we thought was a brooch at HM's waist is only roses made of fabric, an adornment to her dress or belt for the dress. This photo, however, gives a good view of the twin emerald brooches HM pinned over her pearls at the time. Detail

Franck's query regarding a brooch" Throughout 1935-36 Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, as Duchess of York, favoured pinning brooches over her pearls, usually on the left side of her necklace. Initially, I used to think that she used these items as clasps, later converting them to brooches. That was until I saw this image. Below is an enlargement from the photo. To my eye it shows that the twin emerald brooches are pinned over the pearls. I have deduced that the twin brooches are emeralds because HM wore them at the same time as she wore Queen Alexandra's emerald earrings as pendants on her pearls. I think that QEQM also wore them at her waist line during the South African tour of 1947 when she wore the brooch I refer to as her emerald palm tree brooch. I suspect that QEQM also wore her small ruby brooch over her pearls in the 1935-6 era.

The brooches" One of the queries I have is whether the brooch seen on QEQM in the last photo is the pink sapphire brooch which is currently worn by QEII? What do you all think? Has anyone got other photos of QEQM wearing the brooch? A different angle or clearer definition might allow us to gauge whether it is the same jewel.

The brooches. 2nd one" Many thanks Dave. I would love to see other photos of QEQM with this brooch/clasp. Hopefully, in time, some new images will surface which might enable us to make a decision. As I indicated earlier, I am not sure if QEII's pink sapphire brooch and the one worn by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother on her pearl necklace are the same item. But I suspect it might be a possibility.
