Princess Elizabeth and Margaret in Jewels Posted by Dave on January 14, 2019, 8:54 am Maybe the British royals has certain traditions we know nothing about when it comes to gifting jewels to their kids as do the Danish royals. I saw some pics which peaked my curiosity. Please see below. Detail of Princess Margaret's watch Detail of Princess Margaret's watch The watch worn by QEII was a gift from President Lebrun during the state visit to France in 1938. I have never seen anything about what was given to Princess Margaret, but perhaps it may have been the watch she was photographed wearing. At the time, when other gifts were given, each Princess received a separate, similar gift. A later press description of the watch which was worn constantly by QEII until she lost it in January 1955. 1953 When Queen Elizabeth made a state visit to France in 1957 a second, very similar watch was presented to replace the one lost. 1957 Bryce has posted some excellent images on the Royal Jewels List board http://royaljewelslists.boardhost.com/viewtopic.php?id=313

Watches" I strongly suspect that the tiaras worn by Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret for their Christmas pantomime in 1944 were costume pieces. Detail of the head piece worn by Princess Margaret Nevertheless, the Tatler 31 January 1945 said that the tiaras were real. Other newspapers reported or implied the same thing, but to my eye both head pieces look like costume items. What do others think?

Pantomime tiara" This photo for which Dave gave a link is from the pantomime for Christmas 1943. QEII played Aladdin and Princess Margaret Princess Roxana. The tiara is clearly a costume item. Detail When reporting on this in January 1944 the press emphasised the money raised for charity.
