It is one of two designs Cartier did. I suspect that the tiara was never made as I have never seen photos of the Duchess of Windsor wearing anything like either of the two design. I had seen the images of the Duchess showing both of the proposed jewels but, until I saw the Cartier Exhibition in Canberra in 2018, I never appreciated that these were proposals. The sign at the Cartier Exhibition tells the story -- that photos taken by Dorthy Wilding in 1935 were enhanced with renditions of both proposals of 1937 designs. The two proposals 1. 2.

As the Duchess was photographed wearing it on at least two occasions, I suspect she owned the jewel. But was it a headband enhanced by a brooch? Or was it one complete jewel? I have no idea. Does anyone know?

The duchess really had exceptional style and a kind of antique class. I at times wonder what the present British jewel collection may have looked like had she become Queen. The other jewels she is wearing are beautiful, I'd like to get a close up of the bracelet and clips on her dress and the earrings or maybe in colour would do. But the tiara looks very futuristic and simple yet outstanding. Who was it made by? Regards, Dave.
