Queen Alexandra= Princess Diana's Sapphire choker Necklace Posted by Dave on February 3, 2019, 8:41 am Ok, I've always looked at this photo below and wondered what was the large dark stone element on the left side of QA's dress, 'and it came to me that the shape and the surround looked very similar to the Sapphire pearl choker worn by the late PoW, or is it the one worn by HM when she visited the Pope at the Vatican? https://www.pinterest.com/pin/193303008975883322/ Regards, Dave.

My guess is that its the Victoria & Albert.

I'm with OmerH on this -- I too think it is a family order of some description, but I don't think it is the Victoria and Albert. The Royal Collection site has this image of Queen Alexandra from a series of photos taken of HM either before or after the wedding of Princess Alexandra, Duchess of Fife to Prince Arthur of Connaught in 1913. They were the first set of official portraits taken of Queen Alexandra since 1910. An enlarged detail from that photo. It is more than a bit fuzzy, but I think it shows a portrait of a male, so I wonder if it is either the family order of George V or Edward VII. I think the former as the miniature of Edward VII was suspended from a bow with a red stripe on the border. The bow in the photo of Queen Alexandra seems to be all the one colour. A couple of other photos. This photo has been flipped.

Alexandra was often described as wearing the Danish Family order in newspaper articles, especially when still being the Princess of Wales. It seems that only the Queen has a full diamond border for the portrait. See item no 44 in Thomas' post http://mb.boardhost.com/historyroyaljewels/msg/1536607663.html It I am correct in my thinking, then Princesses have a frame with small pearls and crosses set with small diamonds. There are some very clear images of Queen Alexandra wearing what looks like a very similar framed portrait hanging from a ribbon with a dark coloured striped border in the series of photos Thomas posted showing HM wearing various items of the Order of St Catherine. http://mb.boardhost.com/historyroyaljewels/msg/1541945361.html In the image below what I think is the Danish family order of Christian IX is the first order just above and to the left of the Victoria and Albert order. In this image what I think is the Danish order is the last, sitting nearest to HM's shoulder on the right hand side as we look at the image. Does any one know for sure? Edit: I should have said that, in the photo of Queen Alexandra from the wedding of the Duchess of Fife, I think the Danish family order is the one nearest to Queen Victoria's fringe brooch pinned at the centre of HM's gown.
