Queen Mary Amethyst Parure
Posted by OmerH on February 5, 2019, 1:56 am
I just came across this picture on instagram. Apparently this lady wore the parure for her wedding. In the comments the account owner implies that this parure was bought by his family from Pss Margaret in 1982!!!
Thanks OmerH. It is interesting to know what happened to the amethyst parure as many have speculated over its sale, some believing that Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother sold it at auction. Our fellow poster, Franck, never believed that and tried several times to verify if QEQM sold the set. What we don't know is where the parure is today.
There is also still the unresolved question of when Queen Mary acquired the set. It certainly wasn't in 1908. The photos I found pre-date 1908 and, if I remember correctly, Kongetro found a reference to Queen Mary wearing them in Norway circa 1900-1901.
For those who are interested there was an interesting discussion on RJWMB in May 2017
Indeed this parure was left to Princess Margaret and sold by her...very sad ! she could have sold the parure to her sister !

IDK, I am still thinking they may have been another Amethyst Parure in the British Royal vaults. The mere fact that the DoC has those beautiful earrings makes me thinks this way. I keep saying we are really only seeing maybe at least 60 or less percent of what the royals really possess. I'm sure HM QE2 has some other outstanding jewels no one knows about. I think it was Beth who said a while back that at private dinners and get together the ladies dawn some really nice jewels not ever seen in the public. Just look at all the gifts they receive as purported via their annual gift list, they are maybe catalogued and stored for safety keeping without ever seeing the light of day. I am sure Charles has his own lot stored away as well as he strikes me as one to also love jewels and beautiful things.
Regards,
Dave.
