QEQM. A possible sapphire bracelet??
Posted by Beth on February 12, 2019, 7:08 pm
From time to time Franck has mentioned a sapphire bracelet belonging to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (described, I think by Leslie Field) which had eleven sapphires. If I remember correctly I think Franck said it was given to QEQM by George VI. My apologies Franck, but I have not been able to find a link to where you have said this -- so I may have things incorrect.
Today, while I was searching through my photos of QEQM's brooches, I noticed this bracelet.
Could it be the elusive bracelet with 11 sapphires? We cannot see the entire central section of this bracelet, but if my guess is correct it may have eleven sapphires in the central element.
What does everyone think? Or am I mistaken on all counts?
A photo of QEQM taken in 1946 by Dorothy Wilding.

I know that all the images are less than ideal but, if what we can see is accurate then I think I can see 7 sapphires. If we add another 4 sapphires (to match what is on the left hand side) then there are 11 sapphires.
Could it be a match? I realise that my suggestion is a long shot (so as to speak).
Has anyone ever seen another photo of QEQM wearing this bracelet? And in particular one showing the entire bracelet? I think that the photo above shows that there are small dark coloured gemstones in the band as well as in the central element, but I may be mistaken.
Indeed we can see that the central element has 11 sapphires ! well spotted !

Oh!! I could be very wrong Franck. It was just an idea of mine when I saw the photo of HM -- then I remembered your comments and wondered if the bracelet in the photo might be the one you referred to. I hope it is the bracelet - but!!
