Begum Andree Aga Khan Posted by Beth on April 7, 2019, 6:42 am One of the jewels displayed at the Cartier exhibition in Canberra last year was a halo style tiara, which had originally belonged to the Begum Andree Aga Khan. The tiara is versatile and the bottom front section can be detached to wear separately. It has never been clear to me whether the motifs in the tiara were especially commissioned by the Aga Khan or if the tiara was a stock item for Cartier. Does anyone know? Is anything known about the rest of the Begum's jewels?

I seem to remember the production being rushed because they were coming to the shop. No acccess to book at moment as am at parents.

Actually that emerald and diamond tiara was sold at Christie’s in 199.... something, as a necklace. The difference is only a problem of light which happens a lot with white jewelry. The light diminishes the volume of diamond and pearl on a clear background, which is the case here with the skin. Don’t forget that, at the time, the reproduction of photographs was very bad. One original picture could be copied a hundred. You can see this in any archives which goes further than World War II. Some picture are of very good quality, others are very bad.
