Jewellery choices and ANZAC Posted by Beth on April 25, 2019, 8:02 am Today is ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand. For Australia it is our most significant national day. As far as I know the Queen has been directly involved in ANZAC Day ceremonies only once: at the Centenary in 2015 of the Gallipoli landing. Rather than causing WWIII in the southern hemisphere, HM showed her diplomatic skills by choosing a brooch which has no links to either nation: QEQM's 1938 Cartier palm leaf brooch.

The lady next to Prince William is Samantha Cohen, Brisbane born and educated, who was at the time (I think) an Assistant Private Secretary to the Queen. Edit: I was displaying my addled brain and wrote "Philip" instead of "William" initially! Previous Message thanks Beth. Re: Jewellery choices and ANZAC Posted by Beth on April 25, 2019, 8:58 am, in reply to "Re: Jewellery choices and ANZAC" The only other occasion which I am aware of when a royal lady was involved in a ceremony linked to ANZAC (but not on ANZAC Day) was at the opening of the memorial in Villers Bretonneux in 1938. This was held at the end of the State Visit to France in 1938. On that occasion QEQM wore the Hanoverian pearls and one of Queen Victoria's bow brooches.
