Princess Diana's potential jewels
Posted by Franck on May 2, 2019, 2:07 am
Dear friends,
I made a small list of jewels that the Princess diana could have received during her life during her various trips or others.
This gives an idea of what may be in the safes (It gives also an idea of what was received by QEII during her life).
Potential wedding gifts:
Princess Diana might have received jewels as wedding gifts from the following countries: (Perhaps 4 necklaces)
Oman Koweit Dubai Brunei Bahrain (a dhow boat)
Gifts :
Princess Diana might have also received jewels at the following state visits (8 necklaces):
1. Saudi Arabia : Kinh Khalid – 9/12 june 1981 – present (No new jewels at state banquet) 2. Oman - Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said – 16/19 march 1982 – present (No new jewels except for the return diner) 3. Bahrain - Emir Sheikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa – 10/13 April 1984 – present (No new jewels at state banquet) 4. Qatar - Emir Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani – 12/15 november 1985 (a sapphire necklace) – present (No new jewels at state banquet except for the return diner) 5. Saudi Arabia - King Fahd - 24–27 March 1987 (Ruby demi-parure) – present (No new jewels at state banquet) 6. Morocco - King Hassan II - 14–17 July 1987 – present (No new jewels at state banquet) 7. UAE - Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan - 18–21 July 1989 - present (No new jewels at state banquet) 8. Brunei – Sultan of Brunei - 3–6 November 1992 9. Malaysia - Yang di-Pertuan Agong Azlan Shah of Perak[ - 9–12 November 1993 - present (No new jewels at state banquet) 10. Kuwait - Emir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah - 23–26 May 1995
Foreign trips :
Gulf tours in 1986 (8 pays) : Oman (Sapphire demi-parure), Qatar, Bahrein and Saudi Arabia Gulf tour in 1989: Kuwait, UAE : Abhu Dabi, Dubai and Saudi Arabia for Prince Charles
Maybe twenty jewels (necklaces) which might have never seen in public.
Maybe given to her :
the aquamarine and diamond earrings + bracelet worn in 1987 at Cannes ; the pearl and diamond earrings (now worn by the Duchess of Cambridge) worn for the first time in 1990 ; The ruby, diamond and pearl choker first worn in 1989 ; The emerald and diamond demi-parure worn once in 1991 (maybe from the Saudi royal family - (given in 1986 or in 1989) - very harry Winston)
Jewels given and no information about them (or photos of the jewels) :
- More jewels came from the president of Seychelles, from the General Kenan Evren and from the King and Queen of Tonga (Menkes) ; - A sapphire and diamond watch (gift which was presented to her at the 1983 International Spring Fair in Birmingham – never seen in public)
Please not that I had received an email in 2011 from a jeweler who made the gift from the King and Queen of Tonga. It was not a jewel (made with a black pearl but not a jewel)...unfortunately I lost the email.
I would like also to know what she had been offered by the Sultan of Brunei (I have never also been informed of jewels given to QEII by the Sultan of Brunei. I only know that the Duchess of Cornwall was given a set of jewels from the Sultan...)

Thank you Franck. It will be interesting to see what can be identified.
I wonder where Menkes got the information about the jewels from the King and Queen of Tonga from?
I have often wondered what the Sultan of Brunei might have given the Princess as a wedding gift.
Fascinating Frank. If one looks at the present wife to the PoW and the purported jewels she received while on foreign visits i.e. the 2 grand ruby necklaces and others, their is no doubt that the late DPoW did not receive invaluable jewels as well. There was some talk about her receiving some 300 plus diamonds from one of the middle eastern rulers for her wedding. You know with all of the talk of a row between the Cambridge's and Sussex's, I at times wonder if it is possible that if they were a split it was as a result from the deciding of which jewels are to be given to each son and who gets what.
Regards,
Dave.

Princess Diana received a a pattern of shells from the president of the Seychelles and Mrs. Rene and a small oyster with black pearls from the king and Queen of Tonga - not jewels
