Cartier Posted by JohnAF on May 30, 2019, 3:14 am I was just watching 'Flog It' on TV & a valuer was examining a set of Cartier buttons. In passing he mentioned that in 1902 King Edward VII ordered twenty-seven tiaras from Cartier. Twenty-seven !! Coronation gifts maybe. Has anyone heard this before? If true, which ones could they be?

If it had been I am sure that some of those who have written on the history of Cartier would have noted it. If, by any chance, Edward VII ordered such a large number of tiaras at one time, I strongly suspect that the order would have been spread over a number of British jewellers. But it is a good yarn and the type of thing someone might say on a TV program to garner interest!

However we didn’t even know if it still existed let alone being a favourite. No had seen it on over 70 years. I would imagine that the Edward VII quote possibly relates to how many tiaras were specifically ordered from Cartier for the coronation, not by Edward himself. Previous Message LOL, if only!
