A brooch from Imperial Russia ?

Hello,
Recently, Princess Alexandra wore during the State visit to UK of President Trump, her stunning diamond and pearl drop brooch.
This beauty was worn a lot during the 60s but strangely, no photographic evidence of it being worn for decades until the 2006 Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace.
I found that very interesting Instagram Page that linked the brooch to Empress Maria Alexandrovna, Princess Alexandra great great Grandmother :
I know that we are using a photo and a painting for comparison so some details are bound to look different, but to my eye the differences are too great to be the same brooch.
I have been researching this Brooch for the past year and have found many different provenance for this Brooch! Some have said it was a Christening Gift from her godmother and aunt, the Queen Mother (unlikely as she wasn't really known for giving jewellery as gifts), others have said it comes from Queen Mary or Empress Maria Alexandrovna, and I have found a very similar Brooch being worn by Queen Sophia of Greece (she sold some jewels to Queen Alexandra during her exile)! I think it will be very hard to establish a provenance unless we ask the Princess herself (We could contact her granddaughters, who are always happy to answer questions about their Royal heritage)!
Interesting! I hadn't noticed the details of Queen Sophia's brooch before. There are a number of brooches which at first glance look similar but all that they seem to have in common are 5 pendant pearls.
