Duchess of Richmond Tiara Posted by Dave on August 6, 2019, 2:19 am I found this nice clip of the 1937 coronation, the first colour film produced in the UK. From 4minutes 38 seconds in to the clip their is a display of the Peeresses in their coronation robes and tiaras. Can someone bring them up closer? Please see below. ?t=278 Regards, Dave.

I am intrigued by how heavy looking the Richmond tiara is when photographed in the case, yet how light it looks when worn. Here is the Duchess leaving for the 1937 coronation. Below is the Duchess (accompanied by the Dowager Duchess of Richmond) leaving Westminster after the Opening of Parliament in 1937.

Other tiaras in the clip Posted by OmerH on August 8, 2019, 4:55 am, in reply to "Re: Duchess of Richmond Tiara" We have already seen the Richmond tiara above so lets have a better look at the other tiaras shown on the peeresses in the clip posted by Dave, The Marlborough Tiara: Most recently worn by Camilla Thorpe when she married the Marquess of Blandford. The Sutherland Tiara: The Duchess of Sutherland wears this rather unusual looking tiara. The Dufferin & Ava Shamrock Tiara: The Dufferin and Ava Shamrock tiara is now on display at the V & A Museum in London. Having been lucky enough to see it in person recently I can tell you it glitters like MAD under the display lights!!! The Bessborough Tiara: This rather splendid tiara was worn by the Countess of Bessborough at the coronation. The Countess also famously lent the tiara to Rose Kennedy during her time as wife of US Ambassador to the Court of St. James In her autobiography "Times to Remember" Rose Kennedy recalled: "My new and sympathetic friend Lady Bessborough lent me hers and it proved to be exactly right, most flattering and magnificent. (It fitted very well and had many brilliant diamonds including a gorgeous marquise diamond in the front. With a few temporary adjustments and arrangements it was perfect. I was so grateful to her for the thought. I remember my children - Bobby and Teddy as well as the girls - were extremely impressed.)"

How lucky you are to have seen the Dufferin and Ava tiara in reality. I have seen two videos where it glitters. That surprised me as, in photos, the sparkle is not obvious. I wonder if the tiara will eventually be given to the nation in lieu of inheritance taxes, now that there is no heir to the title? I am always impressed when private owners of such valuable jewels allow museums to display their jewels on a long term basis -- which the Dufferin and Ava shamrock tiara appears to be. I have some queries about the Marlborough tiara, as well as the Sutherland one. Perhaps board members can discuss these at a later stage.
