Queen Alexandra. Shamrock brooch
Posted by Beth on September 7, 2019, 7:07 am
From time to time the UK press carried reports of Queen Alexandra wearing a shamrock brooch. These reports covered her visits to Ireland and also to events associated with Ireland in the UK.
On the first day of a state visit to Ireland in 1903 Queen Alexandra wore a shamrock brooch pinned to her hat.
The only photos I have found of this occasion were taken from a distance, so it is impossible to see the brooch.
I have often wondered if the brooch worn by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother might have been previously owned by Queen Alexandra?
Does the design of this brooch indicate when it might have been created?
Has anyone ever seen any good photos of Queen Alexandra wearing a shamrock brooch?
Does anyone know anything more about the brooch worn by QEQM?
I have no information of the emerald and gold brooch worn by QEQM and worn once by QEII.
