All the stones were provided by the Shah from the Iranian treasury. As a bonus here is a great picture of all the jewels created by van Cleef & Arpels for the Iranian coronation:

These jewels are really impressive but if one is to understand, the jewels from the Iranian treasury are not private property but belongs to the state. In his book on Van Cleef and Arpels Vincent Meylan notes that the necklace is a nineteenth-century creation, probably by an Iranian jeweller and that the red stones are spinels. It is a very interesting jewel. I recollect that Vincent Meylan has a colour photo of the necklace in his book -- perhaps one of the photos of the necklace comes from that?
