October Birthstone: Opal & Tourmaline Posted by OmerH on October 5, 2019, 3:54 am Lets start a thread to celebrate the birthstones for October i.e Opals and Tourmalines. Both stones are not as commonly used as some other ones in royal/noble jewels but there are some good examples out there. Let me start off with Crown Princess Mary's Opal brooch/ring/necklace that was an official present from South Australia to mark the birth of her first born Prince Christian (an October baby)!! some background on the jewel's comission and maker: Queen Elizabeth II's Canadian Tourmaline Brooch:

What I would love to see are the opals in the British royal vaults the ones taken out of the tiara/ crown by either QV or QA and replaced with rubies.
