QEQM - Brooch presentation
Posted by Bryce on October 13, 2019, 12:29 am
I came across this British Pathe clip where HM, QEQM unveiled a plaque honouring the Free French Resistance movement in London at 1 Dorset Square in 1957.
Toward the end of the speeches, HM is presented with a brooch and a book.
I spent some time looking to see if I could find out anything about the brooch but have had no real luck.
I wonder if anyone else might be able to track anything down about this brooch.
1 Dorset Square was presented to France as is now Alliance House - the London home of Alliance Francaise de Londres.
Intriguing! Thanks Bryce! I would love to know what brooch was presented to the Queen Mother. I had a quick check in the newspapers this morning, but nothing appears to have been mentioned about the presentation to HM, although the ceremony was reported. The ceremony was of some importance to France as the then very new Prime Minister, M. Bourges-Maunoury, flew to London for the ceremony. I wonder if there was anything in the French press?
I wonder if the brooch she had pinned to her hat was the elusive ruby one we have seen before? I suspect that the hat brooch had a ruby because HM was wearing what we call the Indian pearls with the ruby clasp, and the brooch could be seen only from the back.
